Programs

Programs
UNC Charlotte offers waste management programs that benefit students, staff, and faculty. These programs focus on minimizing the waste generated from campus operations and diverting the waste from landfills.
composting
Composting is a way of processing organic waste such as food waste, leaves, grass trimmings, paper, and wood and turning it into a valuable organic fertilizer. Compost is collected from the two largest campus dining halls and select building restrooms on campus.

weird recycling

Certain special items can be recycled, but must be sorted differently from other, more common recyclable items. Students and staff can take these “weird recycling” items to a Weird Recycling Center on campus – including cables/cords, plastic bags, ink cartridges, small batteries, and eyeglasses. Weird Recycling Centers are located in the Popp Martin Student Union, Prospector, EPIC, Atkins Library 2nd Floor, and Storrs Hall.
Zero waste football stadium
In 2011, the Student Government Association passed a resolution to make Jerry Richardson stadium zero waste, and it has been operated that way since the first game in 2013. Since opening, only two games have been under 50% diversion rate, and half of our games have diverted 70% or more of the waste generated during the game.
