Zero Waste Event Planning

Zero waste is an ambitious goal that challenges businesses to find ways to reuse, compost, or recycle any waste generated. The Office of Sustainability encourages zero-waste campus events and offers supporting resources and information for these events. Some examples of zero waste campus events include:

  • Party for the Planet
  • Facilities Management unit holiday party
  • Alumni Tailgating
  • Sustainability Ambassador recognition event
  • Student Sustainability Summit

If you need assistance in hosting a zero-waste campus event please contact the Office of Sustainability at sustainability@charlotte.edu.

Sustainable swag

One of the most common sources of waste from events is free giveaways, or “swag”. We put together a guide with resources from the University of Montana and Williams College to help you make more informed and responsible choices when choosing what swag you purchase for an event.

Zero waste stadium

There are specific campus facilities that operate differently to help reach the campus-wide waste diversion goal. In 2011, the Student Government Association passed a resolution to make Jerry Richardson Stadium zero waste, and it has been operated that way since the first game in 2013.
